The endocannabinoid system is over 500 years old.

The main function of the ECS is to maintain “homeostasis” aka biological harmony in response to changes in the body.

Endocannabinoids were discovered in the 1990’s.

Produced in the body, they are natural cannabis-like molecules.

Deeply felt learnings from this program are not hard to find in my heart.   One of the most important pieces of this adventure is collaboration.  When great minds focus on something together that they find important.  Anything can happen!  Finding my passion in early childhood and knowing how important it is to share with others has been a dream come true for me.

Just like Mr. Rodgers, feet in this pool, I have submerged myself into my passion for early childhood and have found only greatness in sharing my thoughts, ideas, and energies with others who share the same.

horse water

horse water

Another thing I have picked up along the way is adult motivation.  I have at times had sleepless nights thinking of how to motivate the unmotivated adult.  And the simple truth is, some people are just not going to be on the same page as me.  I believe in learning this, I have pushed myself to be where I am today.  If everything went as planned, there would be no self-motivation and everyone would stay the same.  Including myself.

Another lesson is that if adult learners do not experience learning on their own, they may not retain the information the same as if it was handed to them.  Sometimes experiences teach more than instructors words.

My long term goal in early childhood is to be more like Fred Rogers, remind children of how much they are loved, and to stay positive.

This is my bird blue.  Just like Mr. Rogers, he wants you to respect your neighbor.

6165~ Reflection

thank you language

Thank you, in the past several weeks, we have shared information and insights and supported each other.  As we go our own ways in our personal and professional lives, I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read, respond, and share with me a piece of your lives.  Together we have learned that collaboration can’t happen alone.  We have learned that ideas big or small can be turned into magnificent changes that like-minded people can turn into changed lives.

Examining our own personal schema and how we communicate was a big “lesson” for me.  But through self-discovery, I gathered that perception is key.   It is how others perceive is as well as how confident we are in our self-perception.

I wish nothing but the best for each and every one of you.  I hope that you never stop learning and discovering yourself.  Know that your dream of the perfect early childhood environment can be real with collaboration and communication.  As I constantly say in my classroom… Teamwork makes the dream work!

6164~ The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

People Spell LOVE 0

One Hope

One hope that I have when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that we can all be patient and understanding.  This is a big world.  We all live here, every person, animal, creature, and plant.  We all have different root systems, and not one person is more entitled to more earth than the other.  I hope that each and every family can have the caring, understanding, and ability to share it with the next person, they may be the same as you on the outside, and they may be much different.  But together we can make the world a better place than we found it.

One Goal

A goal that I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice would be to never stop discovering yourself.  The more we learn about ourselves, the more understanding we can be toward others.  We know from life experiences that change is the only constant in life.  But what instead of changing for the different, we changed for the better, spreading awareness, love, and acceptance for unity and inclusion.  But with all of the technological advances and the ability to spread something as simple as the #inmyfeelingschallenge, how about we all strive to really get in our feelings and help others to feel accepted, and cared about.

diversity hand tree

diversity hand tree

Thank you…

Thank you all so much for your kindness, acceptance, and understanding during this time of exploration and learning about ourselves.  I feel that I was accepted and respected even during the time of bringing up some hard memories for me.  I truly wish all of you nothing but the best and hope that in some way I was able to allow you to feel as accepted and understood as you did for me.

About This Teacher

Hello and welcome!  This blog belongs to a mom, teacher, and a student.  When I was in my 20’s I had no clue how to get to where I wanted to be in life.  Having gone through a devastating divorce that included domestic violence so bad it forced me to become homeless with my sons.  I have reinvented myself into who I am today.  My boys are now 9 and 11.  They have gave me what I was missing.  With the skill I gained in becoming their mother, I found my motivation to pursue my dream, teaching.  They were there that day, cheering me on as I walked across the stage and received my Associates degree and a year later, my Bachelor degree in Early Childhood.  Now I teach preschool for the Great Start Readiness Program in Michigan.  I just remarried this summer in Key West FL, to a man that loves me and the boys and is our biggest supporter.  We live in Michigan where we enjoy hiking, biking, yoga, traveling and laughing.
