NAEYC Code~ I-1.12—To work with families to provide a safe and smooth transition as children and families move from one program to the next.
~Significance~ To me this is important because most of the times the families and children enter our classroom it is a first for them. A first for the children entrusting a complete stranger to help them, guide them and mold them. This for them is one of the first relationships with adults in which they may have to respect. For the families I have had, it is scary for them to leave their little ones with someone else. For 4 years they have been the care taker and it’s hard to let someone else do it now. As for the transition part, we want the children to love school; we want them to want to learn. So building that trust with them so they can move onto kindergarten is important. They want to feel heard , loved, and respected.
NAEYC Code~ P-1.7—We shall strive to build individual relationships with each child; make individualized adaptations in teaching strategies, learning environments, and curricula; and consult with the family so that each child benefits from the program. If after such efforts have been exhausted, the current placement does not meet a child’s needs, or the child is seriously jeopardizing the ability of other children to benefit from the program, we shall collaborate with the child’s family and appropriate specialists to determine the additional services needed and/or the placement option(s) most likely to ensure the child’s success. (Aspects of this principle may not apply in programs that have a lawful mandate to provide services to a particular population of children.)
~Significance~ Striving to build relationships with families and children is what I do everyday. Learning the personality of each child and working with them to meet their needs in the classroom it different for each child and family. Being the bridge to connect home and school can be difficult at times but in the end benefits the child the best. In my experience there have been teachers that struggled doing that. The children not only struggled at home but they also struggled in the classroom and on the playground. Maintaining an open relationship with the families connects two very important pieces for children.
DEC Enhancement of Children’s and Families’ Quality of Lives~ 4. We shall advocate for equal access to high quality services and supports for all children and families to enhance their quality of lives.
~Significance~ Having access to high quality services to support children and families for their quality of life. Families have so many different kinds of backgrounds. But everyone deserves quality. Being an educator in the early childhood field, I see children that have come from different backgrounds and care facilities. Lots of children do not see the inside of a school until they are in preschool and giving them the opportunity to experience a quality school setting is important. One of the most important jobs as an early childhood educator is individualizing each child’s school experience. Because not all children learn the same, the same goes for their parents, and families. Having the ability to advocate and teach to different learning styles benefits so many. We are early childhood educators, changing lives, one family at a time.

Fred Rogers always has been and always be a huge inspiration to me, not only for his love for children all over the world, but for his admiration for building self confidence in little strangers.
This quote is just one of how he focuses on the positive in a negative situation.

Erik Erikson to me, is a genius. He was able to research and report strictly on what he was able to observe about children and their early childhood.

“When you’re on fire about what you do, it energizes you, and you can put that energy back into your work.”
~CURT ROSENGREN
“If you are not on fire everyday, get on fire. Find what makes your heart pitter patter and do that.”
~Jenn Faul
It was the morning of our first day of school, a sweet little girl was a little nervous to take these out of her backpack to give to me. When she handed them to me and I said, “Wow, these are so colorful, can I keep them?” She nodded and said, “I drew us together.” I instantly started tearing up. This is exactly why I do what I do. She doesn’t even know me, I could be the meanest woman in the world. She made these for me purely out of an imaginary friendship with her new teacher <3 . I love it! This is exactly what I picture for everyone of my students too.

This is one of my very favorite children’s books. I love to do a large group while listening to the wonderful music. Allowing the children to move the way the music makes them feel. Not only is it my favorite, but I always hear, “Mrs. Faul can we please do it again?” There are so many fun activities to do with this book.
Ever since I was a little girl I enjoyed playing school. My little sister and I would spend hours in my closet, where my dad had installed my very own blackboard. I would put on my “teacher glasses” and teacher her numbers, letters, and how to spell. I was 4, and I dreamed of becoming a teacher. I thought teachers were the best! I still carry on that attitude today, not only because I am one. But I really think that with the work we do, we surely don’t receive enough credit!
