This is why I teach…

It was the morning of our first day of school, a sweet little girl was a little nervous to take these out of her backpack to give to me.  When she handed them to me and I said, “Wow, these are so colorful, can I keep them?”  She nodded and said, “I drew us together.”  I instantly started tearing up.  This is exactly why I do what I do.  She doesn’t even know me, I could be the meanest woman in the world.  She made these for me purely out of an imaginary friendship with her new teacher <3 . I love it!  This is exactly what I picture for everyone of my students too.

What a wonderful gift to get from a new student. Children are so excited to have another person in their lives to help them learn and grow.

    Hello Jennifer,
I can truly understand you and your feelings about this drawing. In the education field, children are the most lovable little people you may encounter on a daily basis. The things they say and do has a way of covering your heart and bring so much emotion that you cannot even explain it. You just know within yourself “yes this is what I was born to do”. The impact in which you have on the students speak for themselves.

About This Teacher

Hello and welcome!  This blog belongs to a mom, teacher, and a student.  When I was in my 20’s I had no clue how to get to where I wanted to be in life.  Having gone through a devastating divorce that included domestic violence so bad it forced me to become homeless with my sons.  I have reinvented myself into who I am today.  My boys are now 9 and 11.  They have gave me what I was missing.  With the skill I gained in becoming their mother, I found my motivation to pursue my dream, teaching.  They were there that day, cheering me on as I walked across the stage and received my Associates degree and a year later, my Bachelor degree in Early Childhood.  Now I teach preschool for the Great Start Readiness Program in Michigan.  I just remarried this summer in Key West FL, to a man that loves me and the boys and is our biggest supporter.  We live in Michigan where we enjoy hiking, biking, yoga, traveling and laughing.
