play and learning
Introducing my research topic…
Children’s benefits of play.
I chose this topic because preschoolers playing make-believe is diminishing. As a teacher in the classroom, I use COR (child observation record) and am finding the make-believe play with other children is a note that is getting harder and harder every year to collect. I personally believe there are many happenings with technology that are affecting children’s play in the classroom.

Through this process, if any readers have any information or experience with play and the benefits, please share them in the comments below.
During the process of filling out the requirements for the understanding research chart, I was able to see that research begins with a question that someone asks. Then they look for information about that question, if they can find the credible information then possibly they can formulate their own answer if not, they must further the questioning and find answers.

Jenn,
I am excited to see your upcoming posts, as I am also researching play. I am researching how play effects attending and focusing skills. It seems pretty scary to me right now, but hopefully as time moves on, it will seem less daunting. I love Mr. Rogers and his position on play. It truly is essential for appropriate development. I have seen children that have severe challenges, use more language, social skills and express themselves through play, more than any other area. It is so beautiful when two of my babies that generally do not engage, engage in different play scenarios. Also some of my students with lower cognition are able to express so many skills through play, that I may not have seen otherwise. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hi Jennifer,
I liked reading your blog on children’s benefits of play and the truth is that’s how children learn though play. I remember when I was a daycare teacher a parent came in with his child and he became upset that his son ranned to the housekeeping area. I told him that children learn though play and it teaches them self discipline. great job Jennifer
